Summer to me is all about simplicity. Especially this summer, for some reason. I just can’t seem to get the motivation to cook up anything that requires much effort. While trying to think up something simple for dessert, banana boats popped into my mind!
If you’ve never had a banana boat, it is such a simple (and tasty) dessert!! I first tried one of these while camping, but they are just as easily made on the grill, or even in the oven! It’s a perfect dessert to get the kids involved with, as well. You can set out all the toppings and let everyone choose what they want to stuff their banana with. After 10 minutes on the grill (or on the fire, or in the oven), dessert is served! I wouldn’t go as far to say that this is a healthy dessert, but it’s much better than a lot of other things you could be having for dessert. And the fillings can be anything. I decided to go with a s’mores theme and stuffed mine with chocolate, marshmallows and after they were cooked, I sprinkled on graham crackers. You can throw in coconut, strawberries, or even slather on some peanut butter. Or make it extra decadent by adding a scoop of ice cream on top once it’s cooked. This will quickly become a family favorite!
toppings of your choice (chocolate, marshmallows, fruit, anything your heart desires!)
Start by making a slit down the banana, but not all the way through. Gently pry open the banana and stuff with toppings of your choice.
Heat the grill to medium.
Place each banana on a sheet of aluminum foil. Form a little bowl that the banana sits in. Place on the grill.
Grill until the banana is heated through and the toppings are melted, about 5 minutes. Let cool slightly before eating.
